I came across this quote from professor Karen Swallow Prior:
“Christ belongs in places outside of my heart, too – indeed, in all places.”
Christ is all, because He’s Lord of all.
Yes, indeed –
Over every square inch of creation…
Over all nations, societies and culture…
Over all spheres of human endeavor…
Christ now boldly proclaims “mine!”
He rose triumphant, as Lord of all –
Having defeated all that Hell threw at Him…
Having conquered the corruption of sin and death…
Having reclaimed His sovereignty over a world He yet loves…
He now boldly proclaims: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” (Matt. 28:18)
Christ commands us thus to “go” –
To make disciples of all nations…
To impact all “the world”…
To proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom over His “whole creation”….
As we take His blessings and rule to all people and cultures. (Matt. 16:19; 28:19-20 & Mark 16:15)
From Christ’s incarnation through the present –
His glory is ever spreading as a great light to all nations…
His Kingdom and peace, with justice and righteousness, is continually increasing…
And whole nations shall come to us to learn His ways…
Because His zeal has ordained it. (Isaiah 2:1-4, 9:6-7)
Christ therefore gives us the authority –
To kick down Hell’s gates and demolish Satan’s strongholds…
To permit and release, and also forbid and bind…
To let His Kingdom come, His will be done…
On earth, as it is in Heaven.
He thus bids us to be reconciled to Him –
Our heart, our mind, our spirit…
Our circumstances, situations and spheres of influence…
So we can reconcile “the world” to Him…
In “all things, whether on earth or in heaven”. (2 Cor. 18-19 & Col. 1:19-20)
If Christ, then, is just about your heart or just about “us” –
Then He’s really not Lord of all…
Nor truly your Lord at all.
So be reconciled to all of Him –
His rule…
His purposes…
His redemptive Lordship over all of life, culture, society and the nations…
So you can be engaged in the ministry of reconciling all things to Him.
Then boldly go forth, in His assurance and authority –
To all the world…
To all people and all spheres of life, culture and society…
Where ever, whenever and however He sends you…
As ambassadors of His Kingdom.
